Easter Sunday

Easter was perfect. We started the day at the church (Hope United Church of Christ) we've been going to. Everyone there was so sweet and wonderful. Hen found 4 eggs amidst all the other running kiddos! He fell asleep on the way home and slept through Eric and I frantically cleaning and setting up everything. Then, our friends came. This Easter we celebrated with two of my friends, both named Amy and their families. I don't know what it was about having friends come that made this holiday seem less stressful, but it was. We packed 13 people into the house, and it was just perfect. After lunch, we had an awesome Easter egg hunt. My niece and nephew BANKED on candy, change and plastic easter eggs :). After everyone left, Eric and I went on a long sunset walk with Henry. We were able to talk and talk and talk, and somewhere along the way, Henry, like a perfect angel, fell fast asleep. Eric and I ended the night with a movie. As I said, Easter was perfect.

Hope your Easter was wonderful, and you were able to wrap your arms around those you love.

bowlers.

We went bowling the other night. It was pretty much awesome. Hendrix was amazed and exhausted all within 30 minutes of being there. I bowled half the night with a tired, adorable baby in my arms and now the entire right side of my body is in pain. I can't tell you how awesome it is to be doing the things I always dreamed of doing with my future family. I feel like I got a kid overnight. Hendrix can ride on rides, slide down slides, swing on swings, and BOWL. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go pack his backpack for kindergarten.

first hair cut

I've been putting off Henry's first hair cut for the past few weeks, because I was secretly hoping curls would take over his head, and I would just let him start growing his Michael Bolton look. Instead, Hendo has been bringing baseball caps to me in the morning and saying, "On!" The result of this new obsession was straight crimped hair that fell into his eyes. So, it was time.

We went to a place called Sharkeys. It was a blast. Henry got to sit in a Ferrari and watch Barney. Older kids were playing video games. It was awesome.

Mid hair cut, he freaked out. So, I got to hold him, his little blonde curls tumbling to the linoleum floor.

My mom told me, "Kelly, you won't believe how much he looks like a little man after that first cut." She was too right.

how does your garden grow?

I think that if ever a mortal heard the voice of God it would be in a garden at the cool of the day. ~F. Frankfort Moore, A Garden of Peace

We planted our garden about a week before the last frost came in. The early morning of the frost, my father-in-law sprinkled the whole garden, encasing all the plants in a thin layer of ice. The ice melted and all of the plants survived. Now, we've got a whole garden filled with growing, green, beautiful plants.
Eric and I have grown tomatoes before, but a growing a garden this size was always a dream. My father-in-law is the real champion of the project, and he's so proud of each milestone, calling me out to see different plants as they've sprouted. He loves taking Henry around and telling him which plants are which. It's been so fun for all of us to watch Henry learn that food isn't bought on a shelf, but grown in the ground.

Yesterday, we harvested peas. Hendrix has been eating them up like candy. The broccoli and tomatoes are almost ready, and the lettuce is so pretty I'm tempted to pick it before it's time. I'm so excited to be starting this tradition with our little family. Watching this garden grow, and eating food that I've had a hand is growing is intoxicating, inspiring and really tasty.

What about you? Are you growing a garden? Do you have any suggestions?
